I’ll be honest, I haven’t had the greatest reading year in terms of quantity, but I have been very lucky that the books I did read, I ended up either enjoying or just loving a whole lot. So I decided to share my favorite books of the year so far. In no particular order…
The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen
This book isn’t out YET but I do feel the need to shout about it every chance I get because it was such a beautiful, soft book that sometimes kicked me in the feels quite hard. It’s kind of X-men, but if they still went to high school and therapy because holy wow having powers is mentally exhausting okay? I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I hope you will check it out when it’s released into the world!
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
I haven’t read & loved an adult book this much in a very very long time. It’s truly everything I ever wanted. It’s funny, it’s heartfelt, it’s beautiful and dramatic and oh my god I just want to read it again now that I’m talking about it. The romance is the best thing ever, the characters are amazing and it has a beautiful message of accepting yourself and truly being who you are meant to be. Check it out if you haven’t already.
I Wish You All The Best by Mason Deaver
Here’s another very soft and beautiful book. Ben is so soft and kind and I just want to hug them because they deserve all the hugs. The romance is super fluffy and sweet and honestly Nathan is just a walking ray of sunshine whom I adored. This is an own voices book and you can really feel it in the writing. I have nonbinary characters in my books too and this was a great insight in how to do it right. Do not sleep on this book, people. Because it’s amazing.
The Boy Who Steals Houses by C.G. Drews
Of course I had to talk about the amazing Cait’s second book that I beta read for her back in 2017. It was amazing then and it’s even more amazing now. Sam is just this messy but soft hufflepuff that I just wanted to take in and wrap in blankets while giving him hot chocolate and all the cuddles they could possibly want. The autism rep is also on point, which is expected because that’s very much own voices right there. Cait is super talented and I highly recommend both of her books if you feel like reading a contemporary that will make you stay up all night reading while ugly crying. 10/10 would do it again in a heartbeat.
Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi
I’m all for soft contemporary books this year, clearly. Because hey, here’s another one that I absolutely loved! Sam has my whole heart with his amazing hair and his tattoos and his baking and AHHH I love him so much. I also very much related to Penny in that I understood how she felt. She just wants to LIVE and not go through life like a zombie like she’s doing now. Their romance is super sweet and I absolutely cannot wait to read more from this author. Also I have never wanted baked goods more than while reading this book. Just saying.
Have you read any of these books? Did you love them or hate them? What are your favorite books this year so far? Tell me in the comments!
